Tempest Tossed song links

In July of 2012, the title and tracklist for the new Bob Dylan album was announced. One song was known to be about the Titanic, but in the early hours after the announcement, no one could guess which song it was. Looking at the titles, we imagined that it could have been any of them. So we decided to write and record 10 songs about the Titanic using titles from the tracklist. Here's what we came up with! (if you see this with a lot of dashes, it means that we aren't done yet - we're trying to keep it out of google searches for info on the Bob Dylan album until it comes out!)

1. Duquense Whistle by Adam Selzer
 2. S--- A---- M----- by Teresa Gunderson
 3. Narrow Way by Cheshire Moon
 4. L---- and W--- Y--- by Daniel Gunderson
 5. Pay In Blood by Michael Nixon
 6. Scarlet Town by Cathy McManamon
 7. E---- R----K---- by Jonathan Spring
 8. Tin Angel by Michael Nixon
 9. T--- by Teresa Gunderson
 10. Roll On John by S.J. Tucker

Duqeunse Whistle by Adam Selzer

The Duquense Whistle by Adam Selzer

This whistle just might be the death of me yet
or at least send me clear out of town
cause it's just the same tone as a banshee I heard
on the night when a great ship went down
the ship was enormous, the ship it was grand
and I had helped build it, a young belfast man
a hungry young buck with no blood on my hands
and just enough blood in my heart
The duquense whistle sounds like a banshee
and if anyone knows it it's me
for I heard the sound when the great ship went down
to its grave deep down under the sea

Well the ship sales off, and the next job came round
but when night when I was out walking
I heard a strange sound, coming over the hills
in the morning I heard people talking
of the news of the ship being lost to the waves
and everyone down in a watery grave
i thought of the sound, and I heard myself say
"so that's what a banshee must sound like."
The duquense whistle sounds like a banshee
and if anyone knows it it's me
for I heard the sound when the great ship went down
to its grave deep down under the sea

I tried to creep under the shadows that hung
I left my home long ago
and thought maybe here all the demons would leave
then I heard that damned whistle blow
so now when it blows in it's miserable way
I take off my hat and I quietly pray
that whatever we're building at the factory today
will fare just a tiny bit better
The duquense whistle sounds like a banshee
that followed me over the sea
over the waves, and a thousand cold graves
so come on boys, and sing it with me.

It was sad when that great ship went down
it was sad when that great ship went down
cold ocean floor, will now be her home
it was sad when the great ship went down.

Scarlet Town by Cathy McManamon

Lyrics for Scarlet Town by Cathy McManamon

SCARLET TOWN    (CMc, 7-19-12)

We set out
Danny and me
For the land of opportunity
Outside of the law
Outside of the norms
We set our sights on a distant shore
Once on board
Part of the crowd
Didn’t care if we got a bit too loud
Ship of dreams
Ship of desire
Not even the ocean could quench our

Fire inside
We were rolling with the waves
And enjoying the ride
Dreaming of the day we wouldn’t have to hide
In a scarlet town.

Decked out
In our leather and lace
She had starlight shining on her face
Didn’t feel the chill
Of the salty air
As she kissed me here and there
Paid no heed
To what anyone thought
Breaking all the rules that they’d been taught
She whispered my name
I couldn’t resist
And I followed her down to the

Fire inside
We were rolling with the waves
And enjoying the ride
Dreaming of the day we wouldn’t have to hide
In a scarlet town

A thud and shudder
The ship grew still
Pulled away from Danny with all my will
“We’re going down”
Someone said
“In a couple more hours we’ll all be dead”
Made for the boats
They wouldn’t let us in
The fine ladies said “we’ve no room for sin -
“Let them stay,
Let them drown,
Let the frigid depths take their demon

Fire inside
Let them roll with the waves
And curse the ride
Dreading the hell they’ll find on the other side
In a scarlet town.”

What do you say
To that kind of hate?
The righteous ones had determined our fate
So Danny and I
Laid down in our bed
Spoke all the words needed to be said
Determined to die
As we had lived
No regrets, nothing to forgive
And when the cold dark
Sucked us down
I swear there was steam from the

Fire inside
We rolled with the waves
And enjoyed the ride
Arriving in the place we wouldn’t have to hide
From the fire inside
Eternally rolling with the waves
And enjoying the ride
Free at last to love on the other side
In a scarlet town.

Tin Angel by Michael Nixon

Tin angel running
Trying to catch me
Tin angel coming
Never let me be
Never gonna hang me
From your bloody tree
Tin angel never ever ever
Gonna get me

Make one mistake
And you're life is done
Hiding in the shadows
From the badge and the gun
Doesn't matter to him
If I was right
Gonna cut me down
When I'm in his sights

It's not living when
You're on the run
Trying to stay alive
To see the rising sun
Lost my home
Lost my family
Lost my country
Ran across the sea

Tin angel running
Trying to catch me
Tin angel coming
Never let me be
Never gonna hang me
From your bloody tree
Tin angel never ever ever
Gonna get me

I crossed two oceans
Covered my tracks
Expecting that bullet
Pounding in my back
I made it to England
Posed as crew
Thought I'd lost him
That my running was through

But he caught me on deck
Hit me from behind
I went down hard
Lay there nearly blind
I heard his voice
As he chuckled low
You'll never be free
I'm taking you home

Tin angel running
Trying to catch me
Tin angel coming
Never let me be
Never gonna hang me
From your bloody tree
Tin angel never ever ever
Gonna get me

Then the crash came loud
And I heard him scream
And I saw the ice
Like a frozen dream
I knew I was done
And the ship was too
I laughed in his face as
The horror grew

We heard the tear
Heard twisting steel
I felt her lurch
We started to heel
We were sliding
And then we fell
And I laughed
Tin angel we're
Going straight to Hell

Tin angel running
Finally caught me
Tin Angel coming
But I'll still be free
We're both sinking
In the bloody sea
Tin Angel sinking
Down to Hell with me

Tin angel running
Finally caught me
Tin Angel coming
But I'll still be free
We're both sinking
In the bloody sea
Tin Angel sinking
Down to Hell with me

Narrow Way by Cheshire Moon

The Narrow Way

I watch the rats as they run by
I follow the sound as voices cry
Men, women, young and old
Trying to escape the cold

The narrow way, no longer flat
Drifting down to pull me back
The cold it licks my every step
Doesn’t matter how far I get

The longest night
That’s ever been
The Narrow Way
It pulls you in

The floor it rises, I try to climb
The ceiling cracks, I’m out of time
The walls they tilt as I start to slip
The darkness creeps as I lose my grip

My legs can’t move the water so high
The lights let go and so do I
The darkness holds me deep and still
Down ‘til I don’t feel the chill

No light, no air
No time, no sound
We’re going down
Into the Narrow Way
